MacBook Pro Users: Why Is My MacBook Making Clicking/Beeping Noises?

I may be a little biased, possibly due to my love/hate relationship with Apple, but making the switch from Microsoft to Apple just doesn’t seem right — yet. Lately, an irate number of MacBook Pro users have been diligently complaining on the Apple Forums that their Macbook Pro is making clicking or beeping noises (which is now fixed). This is just one more issue facing the expensive line of Apple laptops.

Before this there were issues with MacBook pro graphics cards, leading to some nasty on-screen discoloration reminiscent of the iPhone negative black screen glitch. Then there was the 3Bps SATA that wasn’t enabled for 13″ MacBooks. Now this. The two prior issues have [supposedly] been fixed, however, now it’s a new issue  involving an incredibly annoying clicking or beeping noise coming from MacBook Pros. Various users and websites claim that this stems from the Seagate Momentus 7200.4 G-Force hard drives.  What could be causing all the noise? Apparently, it’s Seagates anti-shock function that causing all the ruckus. Yikes.

I’m a bit disappointed Apple in that there are all these problems with MacBook Pros. It’s actually the only reason I haven’t made the switch to a Mac this year. Well, that and they cost an arm and a leg. But paying a couple grand for crap-nasty hardware just doesn’t sit right with me. So, until the new line comes out and no one reports any issues, I’ll just sit back and wait.
