Nissan Land Glider Is The Perfect Vehicle For Skinny People

October 8, 2009 by Troy

Nissan Land Glider

Nissan Land Glider

Want to own an earth-friendly vehicle for two? Are you and your partner skinnier than half the American’s out there? Well, we’ve got a vehicle for you! This is the latest concept car from Nissan called the Land Glider. Yes, it may look like it got t-boned on both sides but little electric vehicle is the bees-knees. Much like a motorcycle, the Land Glider leans into curves and utilizes the same tires as their two-wheeled cousins. Also, since it’s only 3.6-feet wide, finding a parking spot doesn’t seem that tough since it can literally fit anywhere you put it. No pricing information was released since it’s still a concept, but keep a look out at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show as we hear it’s supposed to be on display. Also, don’t forget to head past the break to see the Land Glider in action (taking turns like a champ, of course). Read more

Is America Rethinking Trains Instead of Planes?

September 28, 2009 by Troy

SNCF2

The company that brought France a 357-mph train is trying to bring the same technology to the States. While not as fast (coming in somewhere around 220-mph), SNFC wants to have it’s first high-speed rail system in place by 2018. It’s to bad that they only have plans to bring this to “major cities” because I honestly think we need this everywhere. I would much rather take a nonstop train from Florida to California versus the same in a plane. The french national train operator says its total cost comes in around $140 billion. (Cough)

Must Have: Honda’s New U3-X Personal Mobility Device

September 25, 2009 by Troy

Damn, I wish I worked for Honda. Getting the chance to ride future mobility devices and play with robots would be sweet. Earlier this week, Tokyo was graced with Honda’s new U3-X personal mobility device, a Segway-like vehicle for the ultra-lazy.

What can only be described as a self-balancing robot unicycle, the U3-X could be used for many things. Various online articles claim it can be used for offices, but I see more practical uses. Read more

It’s beautiful design comes straight from the minds of BMW who’ve created many interesting and stunning concept cars lately. Read more

Martin Jetpack Public Test Flights

Martin Jetpack Public Test Flights

While you still won’t be able to buy the $150,000 Martin Jetpack, you will, however, be able to test fly one of them in 2010. The news comes from The New Zealand Herald where on Friday the developers announced their plans to allow the public to test fly a “low, slow” version. The New Zealand newspaper says the first operation will be stationed out of Christchurch. They also go on to say:

People will be able to fly a jetpack about a metre above the ground at no more than 10km/h in a carefully controlled outdoor area. Read more

Schweeb: The Most Efficient Human Transportation

July 16, 2009 by Troy

This has got to be one of the coolest and energy-efficient modes of transportation I have seen. It’s the Schweeb, a human-powered monorail system currently set up in New Zealand. The basics are this: a bike inside a one-person pod hooked to a monorail. Genious.

The idea came to the inventor while in Tokyo. I can see this design literally in almost every city except in the rural areas. Another plus is that it’s completely human driven, meaning there is no pollution to be had while riding in one. The Schweeb also looks fun — sort of like a miniature roller coaster.

Flying, Hovering and Jetpacks… Oh My!

May 8, 2009 by Troy

This latest Martin Jetpack video demonstration comes to us courtesy of “the worlds first practical jetpack” designers. I think they felt the need to show us a good video demonstration of the Martin Jetpack just because the past videos have shown little flying. I guess receiving many thumbs down from bloggers gets the juices flowing, eh? Anyway, the video is way cool. According to Engadget, just to be in this room costs a whopping $10,000. Even worse, you can’t even buy it. Lame. How about I give the company the 10-grand for a 30 second ride? Actually, how about I keep that $10,000 and save my home foreclosure? Yeah… that sounds good.

Cajun Crawler Could Be The Most Creepiest Transportation, EVER

March 16, 2009 by Troy

Yes, I’m tell you, the “creep factor” is high with the Cajun Crawler. It’s finger-like mechanical legs seriously make me cringe. The device was built by students in Louisiana (my best friend Laura’s favorite state!). I’m wondering how practical this personal vehicle is, I mean, it’s rather slow. I guess I should be happy this thing doesn’t move as fast as a Segway or we’d all be in trouble.

New Audi “Shark” Hover Car Concept Makes Me Smile

March 13, 2009 by Troy

It’s almost 2010 and that means the apocalypse is upon us. Audi will make sure that we’ll be running away in style with it’s new “Shark” hover concept car. This thing is slick and one can only dream of being able to drive the Shark before they die. Or, at least, a hover board like the ones from Back To The Future! Regardless, the Audi “Shark” concept car was made by Kazim Doku. This man is a God among Gods in my world of car designers. Kudos to you, Mr. Doku!

Head past the break to see tons of still pictures of the Audi “Shark” hover car. Read more
