GM-Volt.com Says ‘Drive Electric Cars’

January 19, 2010 by Troy

I eagerly await the year when I can proudly say “I drive an electric car.” Hopefully by that time it will be charging on it’s own solar array, saving me even more money. But until that day arrives, I can only dream.

That doesn’t mean people aren’t going to try and get you in the right mindset. Take GM-Volt.com, the blog devoted to Chevrolet’s new electric [hybrid], the Chevy Volt. Sure, I’m betting the creator of this video is trying to generate traffic to his website, but I’m confident he’s also trying to show how positive life would be without petroleum. So, with that in mind, here’s the video.

December 10, 2009 by Troy

chevyvolt-iphoneIsn’t this interesting? It looks like Chevrolet, makers of the Volt, are going to bundle software (for your mobile phone) with the car. The news comes to us courtesy of GM-Volt.com, a site dedicated to the Chevy Volt.

We have already known that charging will be programmable at least from the dash.  Drivers will be able to set the car to charge, for example, after midnight to take advantage of lower utility rates. Read more

Nissan Land Glider Is The Perfect Vehicle For Skinny People

Nissan Land Glider

Nissan Land Glider

Want to own an earth-friendly vehicle for two? Are you and your partner skinnier than half the American’s out there? Well, we’ve got a vehicle for you! This is the latest concept car from Nissan called the Land Glider. Yes, it may look like it got t-boned on both sides but little electric vehicle is the bees-knees. Much like a motorcycle, the Land Glider leans into curves and utilizes the same tires as their two-wheeled cousins. Also, since it’s only 3.6-feet wide, finding a parking spot doesn’t seem that tough since it can literally fit anywhere you put it. No pricing information was released since it’s still a concept, but keep a look out at the 2009 Tokyo Motor Show as we hear it’s supposed to be on display. Also, don’t forget to head past the break to see the Land Glider in action (taking turns like a champ, of course). Read more

First Test-Drive Of The New Chevy Volt Revealed

August 15, 2009 by Troy

Chevy Volt Front

The Chevy Volt used to be what many considered a “rumor.” Something of mythical proportions that would never become a reality. That was, until the Volt fanboys over at Chevy-Volt.com have finally test-driven a real Chevy Volt. They have summed up the entire test-drive into four simple words: “the next American icon.”

Although the Volt has completely changed design since it’s initial unveiling, the car still looks halfway decent. A friend an I were talking last night and the curved roof design must be the most energy-efficient car design because Toyota, Honda and now Chevrolet have all created their electric hybrids based on this design. I will say, however, that Chevy has managed to make the “better” looking ride, which is what we’re all looking for, right? Right. Read more

Oh, Gadget Gods, why can’t I be blessed with this insanely awesome electronic unicycle? A man in Italy has built a device called the Enicycle, which is simply a motorized unicycle. It comes complete with gyroscopes that measure the angle of the device almost 100 times a second. With those measurements it balances itself for you. If you’re thinking of the Segway, it’s sort of like that, but more portable. The inventor has only created two of them but according to the video, the Enicycle has been such a huge hit that the inventor is currently looking for investors to make a commercial version. As for me, I’d totally buy it. Especially if they made an off-road version! It even has a decent battery that lasts 3 hours. Hazzah!

March 6, 2009 by Troy

Tree huggers rejoice. Koenigsegg’s new solar electric car, Quant, was debuted at the 2009 Geneva Auto Show. The four-seater Quant is an all-new vehicle that delivers 512 horsepower and can go zero-to-sixty in as little as 5.2 seconds. And, yes, it’s an electric car. Vroom.

The way Koenigsegg’s Quant gets it’s power is by both Flow Accumulator Energy Storage (FAES) and an incredibly thin layer of photovoltaic cells distributed over the shell of the car. With the combination of both the FAES and solar cells, it’s estimated that the Quant can drive roughly 500km, or, 310 miles. Read more
