Celebrities Come Out For ‘The Cove’ Public Service Announcement
We’ve all seen Hayden Panettiere saving dolphins (and birds) once before, but many more celebrities are starting show up.
A new documentary has been made, showing an annual killing of dolphins in Japan. It’s estimated that some 20,000 dolphins are killed there each year. The odd thing about the whole thing? Well, the world doesn’t even know this is happening. That’s where The Cove steps in. The Cove, an hour-and-a-half long documentary, has won an Oscar for “Best Feature Documentary.” I urge you to pick it up, watch it, then do something about it.
[Huge thanks to Gizmodo for posting this on their site. It has nothing to do with technology, so koodos to them!]

Recycled Beer Bottles Create Beautiful Temples In Thailand
I know I’m a little late to the party on posting anything about recycled bottles, but when I stumbled upon these images of this Buddhist temple made of beer bottles, I was in complete awe.
The location is in Thailand. The temple is Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew. The materials are Heineken and Chang bottles. Oh. Yeah.
Millions of beer bottles were collected for this masterpiece and it wasn’t just the temples exterior that received the treatment. As TreeHugger writes, the interior washrooms and crematorium did so as well. Check out the pictures after the break. Read more

Video: White Pelican Bites Man In The Crotch On TV
April 10, 2010 by Troy
There’s no telling when an animal will attack. While speaking about the migratory habits of certain birds, Walt Crawford was bit in the crotch by a white pelican. I can’t believe he just stood there holding his bits and pieces. I mean, you can hear how loud the smack is when the pelican snaps its beak. To watch it all go down, skip to the 45-second mark.

Looptworks Offers Up(cycled) Laptop Sleeves For $30
March 13, 2010 by Troy
Looptworks is offering some pretty sexy laptop sleeves for $30. Best of all their completely upcycled. Yeah, I didn’t say recycled, — although in a way it really is — I said upcycled.
Upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value.
These badboys are made from excess scraps of nylon neoprene so you know you’re little darling will be cushioned all around. It also comes in two colors: yellow and gray (with a sweet camo lining). I have a feeling you’ll probably dig the latter being the yellow is honestly an eyesore. Grab yours here.

Mosquito Killed By Laser (Video At Bottom of Page)
It’s not everyday when you get genuinely excited over a product. A mass-murdering-laser-beam aimed at mosquito nonetheless. But it’s this exact product that I can stand behind, if only to rid my life of these pesky insects that plague my backyard. For a demonstration, check out the video after the break. Read more

Raptor Mascot Eats Cheerleader Alive
February 13, 2010 by Troy
Newsflash: raptor mascot eats cheerleader alive! Oh noes!
As you can see, the poor cheerleader was just minding her own business doing what she does best: cheering (well, kinda). Unfortunately for her the raptor spotted her lame cheer and we all know raptors go for the weak ones. She was instantly devoured. Local news stations reported seeing her 30 minutes later in the locker room covered in gastric secretions. Apparently the raptor didn’t like her uniform.

The Sun Is Getting Ready To Take Out GPS Signals
February 10, 2010 by Troy
Have you ever felt like you just couldn’t trust your GPS device? Well, you might have a reason in the next couple of years. Researchers are predicting a huge uptick in the number of solar flares our Sun gives off. These flares can wreak such havoc on satellites signals that it could eventually give us incorrect information or make data completely unavailable.
According to BBC News:
“Solar flares – vast exhalations of magnetic energy from the Sun’s surface – spray out radiation across the electromagnetic spectrum, from low-energy radio waves through to high-energy gamma-rays, along with bursts of high-energy particles toward the Earth.
The radiation or waves that come from the Sun can make sat-nav receivers unable to pick out the weak signal from satellites from the solar flare’s aftermath.
There is little that current technology can do to mitigate this problem, with the exception of complex directional antennas used in military applications.
Sat-nav receivers will be blinded for tens of minutes, probably a few times a year at the solar maximum. “

What do you do when you see a seagull dancing like a maniac outside? Grab your camera of course! That’s exactly what YouTube user Frakilk did when he saw this random seagull outside his window. Mix it to Michael Sembello’s classic “Maniac” from the movie Flashdance and you have an Oscar award-winning YouTube video.

Don’t Mess With The Spider, Daddy
January 23, 2010 by Troy
I swear, there are so many animal videos on the interwebs today. Take this one for instance; it’s a spider in a house. But, this isn’t just any spider, it’s a Huntsman spider. Sometimes called the Crab Spider or Wood Spider, Huntsmans are uber fast and this little freakishly enormous female is on the prowl for a mate. Luckily for this camera man she isn’t poisonous.
So what do you do when you have a spider with a 9-inch leg span sitting on your wall? Grab your camera and your daughter of course. I think this video was more scary than Paranormal Activity.
