Toshiba New “Space Chair Project” Is Out Of This World
December 7, 2009 by Troy
Honestly, I don’t have a clue how this “Space Chair Project” goes with Toshiba’s new line of flat-screen televisions. Is it because everything looks crystal clear in space? Is it because when we watch tv on our cozy red chair everything seems to dissapear? I can’t quite understand where space + chair = Toshiba. Either way it’s a pretty damn genius commercial, if you ask me. Spoiler: wait for the pop at the end.
UPDATE: It looks like Toshiba was trying to break a world record. They strapped 8 high-definition video cameras to the chair in hopes to break the world record for highest HD commercial. Needless to say, they did it. The whole point of this project is to show that Toshiba’s products can do extraordinary things. Catch “The Making Of: Space Chair Project” after the break. Read more

Camera Gun Gives New Meaning To A ‘Photoshoot”
September 2, 2009 by Troy

Back in 1952, Japanese company Doryu thought they could catch intruders and criminals with their camera gun. Featuring an actual 16-millimeter camera, Doryu crafted the beautiful DORYU 2-16 pistol camera which is now apart of my ever-growing “what the hell where they thinking?” museum. I hope to be unveiling it next year. Stay, uh, tuned.

DealBot: Samsung SC-MX20 Camcorder Under $150
September 2, 2009 by Troy

SC-MX20 Camcorder
CrunchGear just found a great deal on a Samsung SC-MX20 camcroder that falls right under the $150 mark. Featuring 16gb of internal storage with an SD expansion slot, 34x optical zoom, 2.7″ LCD screen and an awesome swivel hand strap for those unforgetable “private moments,” the SC-MX20 is a great deal. Doug Amoth, from CrunchGear, gave it great review back when the device was $250. So, with a $100 bucks off, it can’t be beat. Mr. Reviewer also notes that this badboy also comes with a 3-hour battery life, something all too uncommon in today’s digital camcorders. You can grab the Samsung SC-MX20 online over at Geek.com in either red, blue or black. Oddly enough, the black version is $5 more. But it’s black.

Picture: Squirrel Crashes Couple’s Photo
August 18, 2009 by Troy

Squirrel Crashes Couple's Picture
This picture, dubbed the “Squirrel crasher” is making its rounds across the entire internet today. The image, which was captured by husband and wife team Melissa and Jackson Brandts, was taken at Banff National Park, Canada. The couple was out at Lake Minnewanka and decided to take a couple of pictures. They started shooting using the camera’s remote control and a friendly squirrel was passing by and heard the camera’s shutter. Intrigued, the squirrel decided to get a bit closer and landed right between the camera’s lens and Mr. & Mrs. Brandts ending with one of the most priceless pictures of a squirrel crashing a photo-shoot ever. Actually, I can’t remember anyone else have a squirrel crash a couples picture; so, it’s the most priceless picture ever. For this picture alone the world needs to conserve more land.
The image has had such a huge following that the Today Show featured the couple and asked them exactly what you’re thinking: is this photo real? Yes, yes it is. Hit up the read link for the video interview. Read more

Video: Slow-Motion Bullet At A Million Frames Per Second
June 13, 2009 by Troy
Sure, the video of a bullet hitting the surface at a million frames-per-second is short lived; but who cares? It’ totally awesome. Never have you been able to see such incredible detail, and look ma’, the bullet separates like string cheese. I freaking love slow-motion!
The above video was taken with the Shimadzu HPV-1 and records AVI’s at 312×260. It even has a dual-camera option which allows a user to record 3D Video (Analglyph). Grab more specs over at Kurzzeit.

Slow Motion Video Shot With A I-Movix SprintCam V3
April 25, 2009 by Troy
I wish I owned a video camera that shot slow motion. You can make [just about] anything look cool when it’s being shot at 1,000 frames-per-second. I mean, just check out this video shot with a I-Movix SprintCam V3. Sure, it may take me 30 years to finally be able to afford one of these bad boys, but damn, if that’s not the coolest shit. I lub me some slow motion.

Amazing Video of Slow Motion Skateboarding
Mmm, slow motion. Looking around on Vimeo today I found this awesome video of slow motion skateboarding. Skateboarding never seemed so intricate. The music they chose is very suitable for this slow motion sequence.
skate – shot on red #1347 – 120 fps from www.theglobules.com on Vimeo.
Looking at the title, I searched the internet to find out “what’s a RED camera?” It’s basically a cheap version of movie cameras. And, when I say cheap, I mean $4,000. I guess that is cheap when compared to the $100,000′s the studios spend on them.
You can check out all of RED’s cameras online at their website.
