Review: Darksiders (Xbox 360)

January 17, 2010 by Troy

Darksiders Review

It’s been a long time since I’ve went on an “adventure” in the gaming world. Sure, I’ve played numerous first-person shooters like Modern Warfare 2 and The Conduit, but I rarely take on third-person action/adventure games. There was, however, something about Darksiders that intrigued me from the get-go.

Maybe it was the epic storyline of a Horseman, deceived into starting the Apocalypse, only to bring vengeance to the ones who started it. Maybe it was Vigil’s first “Balance” trailer that had me craving more. Maybe I’m just wanting to get back into the genera since playing Zelda: Twilight Princess. Either way, I’m glad I forked out the money to purchase the game. Read more

Xbox 360 Christmas Gift Reaction

December 26, 2009 by Troy

It’s the day after Christmas. All the presents have been opened, your family is getting ready to go home, life couldn’t be better. It’s now time to remember everything you got from Santa and time to start playing with them. I’m sure they’ll be more crazy Christmas videos out there, but this one I couldn’t pass up. I’m just surprised the dog in the video didn’t bite this kids head off.

Serious Sam HD Wants Sunshine And Lollipops, Gets It

October 9, 2009 by Troy

The Serious Sam HD “Sunshine & Lollipops” video is hilarious. With a game based on shooting monsters, who would have though sunshine and lollipops would have blended so smoothly? Not me. I started laughing though when Sam shot one of the the four-legged enemies with the SBC Cannon and candy canes, flowers and stars began pouring out. If you ever were a fan of the previous games, you’ll get a total kick out of this video.

‘Darksiders’ Is The First Of Many Games, According To Joe Madureira

October 2, 2009 by Troy

The epic game where you play War, one of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, is the first of many according to the games designer, Joe Madureira. In an interview with IGN Australia, Madureira was asked about the role that the other three horsemen play in Darksiders game. He replied, “They have a very small role in the first one.” I’m sure this is correct, as long as the games sales figures turn out positive.

The interview also details some gameplay mechanics and other interesting tidbits, so it’s worth a read if you have the time. Hit up the link below for the full interview.

Video: Sam Lake Talks About ‘Alan Wake’

September 28, 2009 by Troy

No pun intended. Seriously. Back at Games Convention 2009, Sam Lake, a writer at Remedy, talked about  what to expect in the next-gen thriller coming to Xbox 360 (and I can’t believe I missed it!). I think it’s safe to say that you’ll be going through multiple pairs of undies on this one. Alan Wake is about an author who is having writer’s block. His wife takes him to the mountains to get a little R&R, but it all goes down hill once she disappears. The game is shaping up to be a movie-like game, one that I’m becoming increasingly enthusiastic over. It’s not a run-of-the-mill gore fest like most horror games. In fact, I don’t think we’ll see much blood and guts. I think Remedy is onto something here and I can’t wait for Alan Wake to hit store shelves in spring of 2010.

8-Minutes Of Modern Warfare 2 Gameplay Video

September 25, 2009 by Troy

A huge “THANK YOU” goes out to our friends over at Kotaku. These gaming Gods brought us 8-minutes of Modern Warfare 2 gameplay video straight from the floor of Tokyo Game Show. Thought it’s not HD quality, and at times lamers get in the way, they still managed to bring us 8-frickin’-minutes of Modern Warfare 2 (so we can’t complain).

The video is set in a city, and mind you it’s a large and very detailed one, where the protagonist is up against a major group of baddies. My favorite part is where the player walks up a set of stairs where he’s greeted by a barking dog that’s behind a fence. SPOILER: He looks at the dog and continues on but fails to notice that the dog knows his way around the fence (read: EPIC). As he dies to numerous guns, he respawns right before the dog moment and when confronted with the dog again, he simply shoots it. The crowd got a huge kick out of that, as did I.

If you’re still reading this — STOP. Watch the video… now.

Blur: It’s Like Mario Kart For Grownups

September 5, 2009 by Troy

Getting tired of the cute and cuddly look of Mario Kart? Have no fear. Bizarre Creations has a new game coming out for next-gen consoles called Blur which looks to bring the masses a more realistic arcade-style racer. Instead of bananas, shells or red boxes, Blur will have five different power-ups including nitro, shot, shock, barge and mines (see the video after the break for video of each type).

Joystiq has a nice writeup of some of the features in the game which include the ability to shield yourself and dodge. They also noted that Blur will be able to have 20 cars on the track at one time, which will surely make racing intense. There’s also a part on customization which they note is mainly for the effectiveness of the power-ups, not to boost your rides curb appeal. It’s a different take on a genera Nintendo’s dominated for the past couple of years. I’m really excited to see Bizarre Creations’ game and still interested another badass racing game called Split/Second. Read more

Meta Review: Batman Arkham Asylum

August 22, 2009 by Troy

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Batman: Arkham Asylum

Since the revamp of the movie series, Batman hasn’t seen much, if any, video game love. Well bat-boys and bat-girls, early reviews of Batman: Arkham Asylum are steadily flowing throughout the internets and it looks like Rocksteady Studios has nailed the caped crusader.

IGN’s own Greg Miller has posted a very well in-depth review of the new third-person bat-brawler which also includes a video review (posted after the break). After careful analysis, and finally beating the game, he’s given it an outstanding score of 9.3 out of 10. Read more

August 16, 2009 by Troy

Xbox Mini SideWhile we all know computer chips and various other hardware shrinks overtime. But I wonder if Microsoft ever thought about making a mini version of it’s Xbox? Well, if they didn’t, Xbox-Scene forum user Bandit5317 did. And aren’t we all glad? This “mini Xbox” is only 1″ thick, slimming down even less than a Nintendo Wii, and as Bandit points out, features a massive 320 GB 2.5″ HDD, PW-200-V PSU, is TSOP flashed with iND-BIOS and has a v1.4 motherboard. The Darksiders: 20-Minute Developer Walkthrough

August 9, 2009 by Troy

G4TV is home to “the most watched video games show on television,” X-Play. They’re the ones who actually got this 20-minute developer walkthrough on the new Xbox 360 and PS3 game, Darksiders. In the first video, Joe Madueira from Vigil Games takes us on a ride through a level filled with deamons. War, the games protagonist, hacks and slashes his way through tons of ‘em pulling off huge combos and throwing numerous explosives. He ends up in an area very similar to an arena where he gets to kill wave after wave of even more deamons.

Head past the break for Part 2 of the 20-minute developer walkthrough. Read more
